Short answer

Personal Finance is a Claude feature, launched in beta by Anthropic on 5 November 2026, that links bank, credit card, loan and investment accounts through Plaid and answers questions about your money. Access is read-only: Claude cannot move, manage or invest. The beta is limited to the United States and US banks, on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans, which start at US$ 20 a month, or US$ 17 on the annual plan. It reads balances, credit limits and up to 24 months of transactions, but not investment holdings, rates or contract terms. Conversations inside the feature's hub do not train models; outside it, the account's privacy settings apply. ChatGPT has had a similar feature since May, now on its free plan in the United States, and it reads investment portfolios. In Brazil, Personal Finance does not appear.

What you get from this article

  • Personal Finance entered beta on 5 November 2026, in the United States only and for US banks only.
  • The feature is on the Pro, Max and Ultra plans and is not on Free, Team or Enterprise.
  • Access is read-only, and the bank sign-in goes through Plaid, so Claude does not see the password.
  • It reads balances, credit limits and up to 24 months of transactions, but not holdings, rates or contract terms.
  • Conversations inside the hub do not train models; outside it, your privacy settings apply.
  • In regular chats, Claude reads your accounts without asking each time, unless you change that.
  • If Claude cannot read a bank, the page's budget can show more money left than you have.
  • ChatGPT got there first, is already on the free plan in the United States and reads investment portfolios.

What Claude Personal Finance is

Personal Finance is a Claude feature that links your financial accounts to the chat and answers questions about your own money in everyday language. Anthropic announced the beta on 5 November 2026. According to the Help Center, it accepts bank, credit card, loan and investment accounts.

The feature has two parts. The first is a page with widgets for spending, cash flow, accounts, subscriptions, upcoming bills and short insights from Claude. The second is the conversation: you ask on that page or in a regular chat, and it answers from your balances and transactions.

The link to the banks goes through Plaid, a service that connects apps to financial institutions. Anthropic states that access is read-only and that the feature cannot move, manage or invest money. It also states that there are no ads or sponsored recommendations, and that it offers no credit cards, loans or savings accounts of its own.

How to turn on Personal Finance in Claude

Setup happens inside Claude itself, on the web, in the desktop app, on iOS or on Android. The rollout is gradual, so an eligible subscriber may not see the menu item yet.

You can link up to 16 banks. The Plaid step has to finish within 10 minutes, and transactions can take a few more minutes to sync. Anyone with a joint or business account at the same bank can keep a second login, but an account that the bank shows differently under the two logins may be counted twice.

What it is for: the questions you can ask

The main use is answering what today means opening several apps and doing the math. In Anthropic's example, a person asks where the month's money went. Claude adds up spending across the linked accounts, sorts it by category and reaches US$ 4,309.37, with more than half on rent and utilities and US$ 1,024.51 on food and drink.

The conversation carries on from there. In the same example, it compares with previous months, points to a membership renewal, lists four payments that will leave the checking account before payday and works out what remains: US$ 1,393.22. Those figures come from the company's demo.

What Claude can see and what stays out

The list of what the feature reads is public and applies only to the accounts you choose to share. The table below sums up the Help Center. The absence of rates and terms explains the interest example: the figure comes from what was charged in the transactions, because the contract rate is not among the data it reads.

Two points need attention. Plaid delivers only the last digits of an account, but if the bank writes the full number into an account name or a transaction description, Claude may see it there. And Plaid's screens may ask for consent to share investment, credit and loan data, while the Help Center says Claude reads only what is listed today.

How much Claude Personal Finance costs

Anthropic has not announced a separate charge. The feature comes with the subscription, but it does not reach the free plan or company accounts. Pro is the way in: US$ 20 a month, or US$ 17 a month on the annual plan, with US$ 200 billed up front.

Anyone who moves a personal account to a Team or Enterprise organization loses the link: Claude unlinks the banks when the move starts. When a paid plan ends, the page closes, but the banks stay linked until you unlink them. If you subscribe again, you find your banks and dashboard as you left them, and a bank may ask you to sign in again.

Privacy: what "read-only" does not cover

Read-only protects the movement of money: nothing leaves the account on Claude's command. Where the data goes is a separate matter, and the details sit in the Help Center more than in the announcement.

The training rule depends on where the conversation happens. What you discuss inside the Personal Finance hub does not train models. Outside the hub, the account's privacy settings apply. Anthropic's policy says raw connector content stays out of training, but that data copied into the conversation may be included, and the Help Center does not explain how that applies to a figure Claude repeats in a regular chat. To avoid the doubt, ask inside the hub or keep the model improvement setting off.

The data appears in the conversation and stays in your history until you delete the chat. A deleted conversation leaves the history at once and the back-end systems within 30 days, and a conversation flagged for violating the usage policy can be kept for up to 2 years. The providers that host Claude also handle bank data, and Plaid handles it under its own terms.

Where the numbers can go wrong

Anthropic warns that Claude makes mistakes and recommends asking which transactions sit behind a number and checking important figures with your bank. The Help Center details why a figure can differ from your statement.

The third case in the list below needs the most attention because the error points in the dangerous direction: the screen shows room that does not exist. Anyone using the dashboard to decide on a purchase should first check that every bank is being read.

OpenAI's help page gives other causes in ChatGPT: transfers, credit card payments, reimbursements and duplicate pending transactions counted as spending. In either product, check the total before you decide based on it.

Pros of Claude Personal Finance

The main gain is time: one question replaces opening several apps and adding things up by hand. The second gain is the explanation, because the answer comes in everyday language, with the technical term translated and applied to your own numbers.

On privacy, the hub rule is more favorable than that of its direct rival, whose conversations follow the account's general training setting.

Cons of Claude Personal Finance

The biggest limit is reach: the United States only, US banks only and paid plans only, while ChatGPT already offers a similar feature for free in the same country.

For investors, the lack of holdings limits the analysis a great deal, because Claude sees how much is in the account but not what is inside it. Anthropic also says the feature is not designed to give investment advice.

Claude Personal Finance or ChatGPT Finances

Claude came later. OpenAI opened Finances to Pro subscribers in the United States on 15 May 2026, took it to Plus in June and, on 2 October, to Free and Go. Perplexity linked banks, cards and loans through Plaid on 9 April, on desktop, for signed-in users in the United States and Canada. Plaid says it works with more than 800 AI companies.

All three use Plaid, so the connection is similar. What changes is the plan required, the data read and the privacy rule. On coverage, ChatGPT is ahead: it reads investment holdings, connects a credit score through Experian and lets you remove one account at a time. Claude has the edge on the hub training rule and on keeping no memory of those conversations.

OpenAI also states that synced data is deleted from its systems within 30 days of disconnecting. We found no equivalent deadline in Claude's Help Center.

Does Claude Personal Finance work outside the US?

No. The beta is limited to the United States, accepts only US banks and disappears from the interface outside the country or on a VPN that connects from another country. Anthropic has not published a date for other regions. ChatGPT Finances has the same geographic limit.

In Brazil, where ROO3 is based, the regulated route for sharing bank data is Open Finance, supervised by the Central Bank. The customer gives consent and chooses the accredited institution that will receive the data. As we read it, a Brazilian version would have to go through that system or a partner taking part in it; Anthropic has said nothing on the subject.

A similar feature already appears in banks there. BTG launched Minhas Finanças in May, which uses AI to forecast spending and Open Finance to bring together accounts from other institutions, according to Let's Money. Anyone who wants to use Claude for their finances today can upload their own spreadsheet, first removing account numbers and ID documents and checking the training setting.

What cannot be stated yet

We did not test the feature, because it does not appear in Brazil. This text relies on documentation from Anthropic, Plaid and OpenAI, and the example figures come from Anthropic's own demo.

The announcement and the Help Center give no accuracy rate for the totals or the categories, so reliability cannot be measured from the outside. On Plaid's side, its policy provides for automatic deletion when a connection is removed, with exceptions such as legal obligation, fraud prevention and anonymized data. Claude's Help Center says it stops reading the bank, without giving a deadline for data already synced.

The announcement calls the feature a first step. The company says it is exploring how to bring bigger money decisions into Claude, alongside licensed professionals and regulated firms, and it asked banks and wealth managers to get in touch. There is no date or detail, and the announcement says nothing about moving money.

Who it is worth it for

It suits people who live in the United States, already pay for Claude and have accounts spread across several banks. The test is cheap: link one bank, ask one question and compare the answer with your statement before linking the rest.

Anyone who wants portfolio analysis or credit score tracking gets more from ChatGPT, and so does anyone who does not pay for a subscription, through the free plan. For companies, the feature does not apply: it is not on the Team and Enterprise plans.

It suits less those who often share conversations and artifacts, because the account figures go along, and those who do not want bank data in a chat history. In those cases, use the hub, switch Plaid off in regular chats and delete what does not need to stay.

Where ROO3 comes in

The design of Personal Finance works as a reference for any company about to link AI to internal data: start read-only, limit what the model sees, separate what trains from what does not, and make it possible to check where each number came from.

At ROO3, we do that math before connecting any system. Our AI consulting helps define which data can go in, who authorizes each access and how to check the answer. Our text on LGPD and AI shows what the Brazilian law asks for along the way.

No. The beta is for the United States only and accepts only US banks. Anthropic has not published a date for other countries.

Can Claude touch my money?

No. According to Anthropic, access is read-only, and the feature cannot move, manage or invest money.

Does Claude see my bank password?

No. Sign-in happens through Plaid, and Claude does not ask for or see the password. It receives only the last digits of the account, unless the bank writes the full number into an account name or a transaction description.

Do my money conversations train the AI?

Conversations inside the Personal Finance hub do not train models. Outside the hub, your account's privacy settings apply, which you can change in Claude's preferences.

Does Personal Finance analyze my investments?

Only by balance. Claude does not read holdings or trades, and Anthropic says the feature is not designed to give investment advice.

Which is better, Claude Personal Finance or ChatGPT Finances?

It depends on the use. ChatGPT has a free plan, reads investment holdings and connects a credit score. Claude keeps hub conversations out of training and keeps no memory of chats that used your accounts. Both are limited to the United States.

How do I turn off Personal Finance?

Open your linked accounts on the feature's page and select "Unlink all banks". You can also disconnect Claude at my.plaid.com. When you unlink the last bank, the dashboard is erased for good.
